In the early 1980s German automobile manufacturers like BMW and Mercedes increased their models' presence in Hollywood blockbusters through product placement. Especially BMW made heavy use of film to promote its cars — for example with the mini-series The Hire. BMW even became James Bond's ride of choice, although the character had traditionally preferred British makes. While Audi entered the product placement practice relatively late, cars with the Audi rings have been featured prominently in various productions, including:
- E. T. (Audi 5000)
- Ronin (Audi S8)
- The Insider (Audi A4)
- Mission: Impossible II (Audi TT)
- The Mothman Prophecies (Audi A8)
- About a Boy (Audi TT)
- Transporter 2 (Audi A8)
- Hitman (Audi S5, Q7, RS4 Cabriolet)
- Iron Man (Audi R8, S5, Q7)
- Wanted (Audi Q7)
- Transporter 3 (Audi A8)
- [[I, Robot (film)|I, Robot] (Audi RSQ; specially developed for the film)
